The history of 20th century Nordic architecture includes a host of both iconic and lesser-known designers - from the other side of the world, Robin Boyd maintained a familiarity with many such figures and their work. Boyd seems to have had only limited direct contact with key Nordic modernists however: in 1950 he visited Arne Jacobsen in Denmark, and in 1957 met Finnish-American Eero Saarinen in Detroit. Despite this, Boyd was familiar with all of the key Nordic mid-century modernists, and key figures turned up frequently in his writing and photography. The architects profiled here are key figures of Nordic modernism, and Robin Boyd has some connection to all of their work.
