Places

Despite his abiding interest in Nordic architectural ideas, Robin Boyd visited the region only twice: in 1950, driving across Sweden and Denmark (in a Morris Minor purchased in England) on a Haddon travelling scholarship, and in 1964, when Robin and Patricia spent a few days in Helsinki during a round-the-world trip. Despite this, Boyd maintained a familiarity with developments in Nordic architecture throughout his life. On these two trips he visited and photographed important buildings by key architects, with a particular focus on contemporary buildings completed in the last decade. By mapping the places Boyd photographed, we can learn about his routes through Sweden, Denmark and Finland and where his attention landed.
